Good afternoon everyone, and happy fall! This post I am excited to share with you the new treat I made for Bauer today!! For this treat, I found the basis of the recipe online. However, after reading through it, I decided to change a few things to satisfy Bauer and his favorite tastes. For example, the recipe originally called for banana, but Bauer does not really show interest in banana flavor (he may be the only bunny to not like banana!). Therefore, I substituted parsley (his favorite) and a slight addition of oats (to compensate for the consistency of the banana)- in place of the banana. I also decided not to include his pellets in the treat this time, just using all oats to see how he liked that- remember these are treats, so give sparingly (oats are high in carbs, so give 1-2 per day if your bunny does not get much time in his/her playpen for exercise). The other components of this treat include: honey, carrots, and oats. This is a pretty straightforward treat, however, messy and time consuming for sure! First, I set the oven to 325 degrees. Then I finely ground the oats, and dumped them in a bowl. Next, I pureed the carrot and parsley in the blender. I added them to the oats which I previously ground, as well as a tablespoon of honey! Then I realized since I had amended the recipe, I did not have the proper doughy consistency- it was too runny. So, I had to clean the blender and blend more oats (until satisfied with consistency). I kneaded that with my hands for 1-2 minutes, then rolled it flat onto a cookie tray (about 1/4 in thick). I cut the treats into little circles before baking to allow an even cooking time, and also to make it easier to pick them up after baking. I put them in the oven (set to 325) and baked them for 30 minutes. Then, I turned off the oven and let them sit for an hour making sure they baked all the way through- so they will not mold later. Bauer immediately went crazy for these treats- he LOVES a baked parsley treat! I have plenty of these freshly baked treats, so message me if you'd like a taste test! Also, they store very well in the freezer- so they will always taste fresh to your bun! :) Thanks for reading!
