![]() Hey y’all! Hope this week has been a good one for everyone; I know I am sure ready for the weekend already! For my post this week, I thought I would stray a little bit away from the treats and instead share about the process I went through in getting my bunny a new cage!! I feel like this is a topic every bunny lover must want to read about- and lets face it, there isn’t a lot of information about bunny cages out there. I know I would have much appreciated the advice myself when I was going about it, so let me share with you! Ok, so why a new cage? Well, he has grown since he was a little baby so he needed more space, also, being a student, I travel between two cities frequently- home and school, so it would save me a lot of struggle if I could keep the old one back home, and get a new one for my place here! So to start out, this process was slightly longer than I had expected… from start to finish, it took me about two months, half of which was dedicated just towards choosing the right cage. This was mainly because of the lack of “good” bunny options out there. I went to all the local big box pet stores and found cages that were only a couple inches longer than the one I already had him in, but I did not feel like they would be a good enough upgrade for the cost. Also, I do not want to keep him crammed up in a little 36 inch cage- even if he is only in it at night. No matter where I went to shop, I found the same style, one level cages with not much space. The only variation I saw in stores was a cage with an additional little half shelf that was advertised to use as a place for your bunnies food. I thought that took away from some of the bottom level space, and still was not enough room for Bauer. Then one day, when taking Bauer for a check-up, I saw a bun mom in the waiting room with a BIG 47” long cage. I asked her where she got it, and she told me a website online. So, I kept that in mind. When I saw my vet, I even asked her what cage she recommended, thinking she would be able to put my question to rest, but she simply said any of the cages at the pet store were fine, and that bunnies typically prefer one level spaces. I felt like that mom who was talking to a lady without kids- like she really can’t understand my love of my bunny. I am not going to lie, I was slightly dejected after her response, but did not let that deter me from my purchase. I decided after watching Bauer in his play pen jump onto and off of his plastic toy hut- over and over again, that he wanted something more than one level. He wanted excitement, and room to roam and play. So for the next couple weeks, I kept searching online, also looking into that one BIG long cage the woman at the vet had. I had narrowed it down to three cages: 47” long cage, the ferret mansion I always wanted for Bauer, and then one more I found online that you have to buy panels and build yourself. I felt there were issues with them all: the one I saw at the vet was still too plain and a little boring, the one you have to build yourself was very pricey (if bought pre-assembled) and I was worried it would not turn out well if I did it myslef, and lastly, the ferret mansion I always dreamt of I was worried it was not going to fit my bunny- since it was intended for ferrets. More specifically, I was concerned the holes between the levels of the cage would be too small for my bun to fit through. However, I decided since I found it on sale online, that it was worth a shot! I ordered it, waited and waited anxiously for it to arrive, and then assembled it with some help from a builder savvy friend- very important! After familiarizing his new bunny mansion by adding a few old toys (as well as some new ones- he is sooo spoiled!), he started climbing and hoping around right away. The only adjustment I made to the cage was to take off the top half shelf- he did not seem to like it too much, and I did not want the ladder leading to the shelf to take away from his other space. He has no problems fitting through the holes, and I have cloth covers on the wire ladders to keep his feet from getting stuck when he climbs up them! Bauer loves his cage, and anyone who is considering a multi-level home for their bunny- do it! This week, I will try to film him inside it to show you all his new home and how much he loves it, along with the pictures below!

![]() Welcome back bun fans! Hope y’all are having a sweet week, and are ready for excitement and some innovative thinking- because I am so excited to share this new treat I have created! This time when I was thinking of a treat to make I started by deciding on the method of cooking I wanted to use. Since I used the oven in last weeks treat, I wanted to switch things up and choose a non-conventional method of cooking. So I crossed off the oven, and did not want to use the microwave either...hmm!! I thought and thought, and then decided to make a healthy, all natural, frozen treat for my bunny, Bauer! I say using the freezer is a non-conventional form of cooking because when I think of “cooking” I automatically think of using heat in order to make something. However, this time I decided to use the freezer to make my parfait-like popsicle bunny treats. J After I decided I wanted to make a frozen treat, I then selected my ingredients, and how I was going to put it all together. This recipe was much more fun and less stressful to make than the last one- because you can be a little more creative (I think at least!). The base ingredient in this weeks bunny treat is mushed banana. And, as this is a layered treat, and I am sure yall’s freezers don’t have a lot of free space either, I decided the easiest way to form the treat is to use a cupcake liner to contain them in (small yet sturdy). So, here are the steps: start off putting a small drop off banana mush (banana with a little water mixed in) in the bottom of the liner. Next, top it off with your bunnies favorite fruit or herb combination chopped up really small! Put it in the freezer for 2 hours to harden, and then give your innovative, yummy, and healthy treat to your bun to enjoy!! I had some fun mixing in other flavors to the banana base to see which ones he liked better. I tried a mix of carrot and banana bases, as well as a couple other fun flavors for my bun. Overall he liked them, but did not LOVE them as he did the parsley tid-bits from last week! Bauer would wait until they were near thawed out before he would really dig in. I think my bunny prefers a crunchy treat. What do your bunnies think of them? Anyone try to make the treats from last week? Let me know your stories! Oh, and also, my bunny went home with me for the weekend so I could attend Yom Kippur services with my family. There are some super cute photos below of Bauer hanging out with her doggy sisters, a shi-tzu named Daisy, and a yorkie named Stella. Surprisingly, they all are best friends!! J ![]() Hello bun fans! Ready for my first review?! Get excited y’all, because this week was a huge success according to Bauer!!! In order to think of the recipe to make this week, I started thinking about what his favorite food is. I don’t know about your buns, but my fluffer loves PARSLEY! So, I knew I wanted to start by adding some parsley as the main ingredient. I then threw in some of his other all natural favorites; I picked his favorite fruit and his favorite veggie (can’t release all ingredients because I want you guys to try mine!), blended it all up, and then also added some of his food pellets to make it into a biscuit type treat, and one other all natural ingredient I used in place of flour. I supplemented in place of flour because I do not think flour, even wheat flour, is good for bunnies digestive systems! The last ingredient I used in order to help the treat retain its shape, as well as to add a little flavor. After you combine all the ingredients, make sure to roll the dough out very thin (1/4 in thick) or it will not bake all the way through! I baked it for half an hour at an oven temperature of 325, checking periodically to make sure it does not get too brown! Then, I turned the oven off and let it dry out in the hot oven for another hour- making sure it does not hold moisture, and will not mold!! Below are pictures of the process and also a little video of him encountering the treat for the first time (Although, when I went to hand him the treat he grabbed part of it from me before I could start the camera! Drats!). I would say it was a huge success!!! What do you guys think about the idea? Do your buns love parsley too? Please message me if you’d like a sample for free (just you pay shipping!). Thanks so much for reading! Look for us next week; I already have some ideas forming!! ![]() Why buy pre-packed foods when you can spoil your bun with fresh!? Calling all bun lovers! My name is Corinne, my friends call me Rin for short, and I’d warmly like to welcome you to my blog, All Natural Noms for the Healthy Bun. As this is my first post, I thought I’d share a little bit about myself, and then why I chose to begin my blog. To start off, I am a student attending a university in Florida (think black and gold!). When I am not inundated with readings for classes, I love to shop (who doesn’t?), hang with my 2 sisters, look for shark teeth, paint pottery, go jet skiing, fishing, and even snorkel the Great Barrier Reef! But more importantly, I love to spend my time spoiling my bunny named Bauer (this I’m sure we all have in common)! I may even spend more time on my fluffer, Bauer, (after, yes, Jack Bauer… you know, the guy from 24!), than school (still on Deans List, don’t worry!). And because nothings sweeter than having someone share in your love, I figured why not share my passion of bunnies with all the other bunny lovers out there! My blog actually developed into idea after months of failed attempts at finding the ‘perfect treat’. In looking to spoil my bunny I have tried- and paid handsome amounts for (they get so costly!)- nearly every single store bought treat available on the market. (I even tried guinea pig treats too!). However to me and my other bun moms disbelief, our buns will take the treats, maybe take one bite, but never actually eat them…. So, I searched further to see if I could find some homemade treats online to purchase and try. Yet again, I have not found those either! Therefore, in order to give an answer to our treat deprived bunnies, I decided to give this a shot: I will experiment once a week with all natural and safe ingredients that our bunnies can eat, in order to make my own homemade bunny treats that I will share with you all- through pictures, reviews of the process and outcome (according to Bauer and his bunny friends taste tests!). So, why not stop spending countless dollars on store bought, stale, and unhealthy treats that our buns do not truly care for, and instead tune in weekly to my blog and learn with me how best to spoil our bunnies. Help me change the bunny market forever with my new, tasty, and more affordable, All Natural Noms for the Healthy Bun! Next week will be my first review; you don’t want to miss it! Please feel free to comment and post stories you’d like to share or recipes you’d like me to try! I’m thinking first 5 people to message me will receive a batch of my treats of the week to try for free (only you pay shipping)! All others $4.99 plus shipping for a bag of treats! |
